December- 2017, Kathmandu- The sixth Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Justice and Rights Institute-Nepal (JuRI-Nepal) held on Saturday unanimously elected an inclusive executive board to be led by Advocate Sharmila Shrestha as the new chairperson.
Ms. Shrestha is a public interest lawyer and gender expert by profession. Shyam Kumar Bishwokarma, Pankaj Kumar Karna, Aarati Bista and Indira Shankar have been elected by the AGM as vice-chairperson, secretary general, secretary and treasurer respectively.
The executive board members elected are Tek Tamata, Chun Bahadur Gurung, NirajanThapaliya, Bhagawoti Ghale, Saraj Thapa and Ratna Kaji Shrestha. Executive Board, including the Chairperson, serves JuRI-Nepal for the next two years.
In addition to the endorsement of the annual report, audit report and other policy documents, the AGM instructed the newly elected board to intensify the strategic research and advocacy on pertinent issues concerning long-standing discrimination and exclusion, denial of economic, social and cultural rights and culture of impunity embedded in society in the context of federalism. The AGM thanked to the outgoing Chairperson Advocate Raju Prasad Chapagai for demonstrating effective leadership since the inception of JuRI-Nepal.
